St Mary's Radcliffe on Trent

Sharing God's Love

PEWS NEWS – This will be the last Pews News issued this year.  It will start again for Sunday 6th January 2019.  Have a very Happy Christmas and a Peaceful  and Healthy New Year. Editor

BLUE PRAYER TREE – There will be a prayer tree over the Christmas period. People are invited to write a prayer or simply the first name of a loved one who has died or who they will be missing over the Christmas period and hang their name on the tree. Leaves will be provided for this purpose, and the Lady Chapel will be a quiet place for prayer and reflection during and after our services. Rachel

REGULAR GIVING ENVELOPES - The envelopes for 2019 are now at the back of church. If you gave in this way in 2018 or have asked me for a set for 2019, there should be a named box waiting for you! If anyone else would like to start giving regularly to the mission of St Mary's  (by envelope / standing order etc.), please do pick up one of our giving packs (also at the back of church) for more details. Many thanks. Sally

CAKE STALL - Thank you very much to those who donated cakes and/or came and bought cakes at my cake stall for Karibuni Children over the last 3 Tuesdays in the Church hall. The total raised has exceeded £200, which is an excellent result and will help to buy materials which we will use in our projects in Kenya in February. Thank you. Mary W

CHRISTMAS MESSAGE – Bishop Paul has recorded a video message for Advent and Christmas which reflects on how within a vast universe and uncertain world God reveals himself to us in Jesus Christ, and the birth of the Christ child offers joy and peace to all those who seek him. The video, which can be found on You Tube, also picks up on the Church’s national theme for Christmas 2018, Follow The Star; it was filmed at Sherwood Observatory, near to Sutton-in-Ashfield, and the Potting Shed Church, which meets in a barn in Caunton. For those who have computers click here to view the message. Otherwise if you own a smart TV you should be able to open You Tube and search for the message.

JOINT SERVICE FOR CHRISTIAN UNITY – This will take place Sunday 20th January 2019 4.00pm at the Methodist Church during the week of prayer for Christian Unity.  The service will be prepared by the churches in Indonesia.  More information closer to the time.

2019 CALENDARS - Attractive Calendars, priced £6.00 each, featuring Nottinghamshire churches are now available from Brian, or any of the bell-ringers. Proceeds to go to the Diocesan Bell Fund.

MARY’S COACH TRIP – It is my intention to organize a coach trip to Hereford next spring. My current thinking is Saturday 27th April 2019 at a cost of £20 per adult and £16 per child (14 years and under). If enough persons are interested I will arrange a group booking for a guided tour of Hereford Cathedral home to the Mappa Mundi and the famous Chained Library. This will be at an extra cost of £4 (or £6 if you only wish to see the Mappa Mundi/Chained Library and not take part in the guided tour). Please let Christine or me know if you wish to come. Martin

URGENT HELP NEEDED FOR ASYLUM SEEKERS - The Refugee Forum Anti Destitution Group works with people who have had their asylum claim refused and their accommodation and financial support stopped. There are many reasons why people find themselves in this position; the Home Office places a high bar on the threshold of new evidence it will consider as a fresh claim and for many this is their only legal way out of destitution. Many people are unable to meet this and choose a life of destitution over returning to their country.  The Forum works with clients by liaising with solicitors and health professionals and supporting ongoing casework. It also has a food bank and provides £10 every four weeks. This year, however, it has had to look for new sources of food to work out a way to keep the Food Group going due to limited funds. If you would like to know more about helping financially (donations) or practically (food supplies) then please contact the Refuge Forum This email address is being protected from spambots.
