Heavenly Father we pray this week for the families of those victims who were killed in the terrorist attacked in Barcelona, and Cambrils, Spain.  As well as the victims in Spain we pray for those who were injured or killed in the frenzied knife attacks on women in Turku, Finland a country which to date has not experienced an terror.  We pray for the British man who selflessly went to the aid of the victims that he soon recovers from his injuries.  We pray for those affected by natural disasters particularly people living in Nepal, India and Bangladesh where flooding has taken away the lives, homes and livelihoods of so many of their citizens.  We pray for those who have suffered loss and injury on the island of Ischia, Italy where a substantial earthquake has taken place.  We pray all of this in the name of our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.

REV. CANON MARK TANNER – The licensing of the Reverend Canon Mark Tanner as Vicar of St. Mary’s Radcliffe on Trent and St. Peter and St. Paul’s Shelford will take place at St. Mary’s on Thursday 7th September 2017 at 7.30pm.  Please note that it is not necessary to RSVP as suggested in LINK.  All you need do is turn up on the night.  Everybody is warmly welcome.

WELCOMING LUNCH - On Sunday 17th September we are having a shared lunch to welcome Rev Mark and Sue Tanner.  Please keep this date free. In due course there will be a list at the back of church so people can sign up. Jude McLauchlan

CO AWARENESS MODULE - To all who have completed the on-line Safeguarding Awareness module, many thanks and well done! It is very much appreciated. There is a list of names of people concerned at the back of the church.  There remain just as many people to yet do the module, however, and as a reminder, it is a requirement for ALL volunteers, whatever your role, even if occasional. So those good people who come in to, for example, to play the piano, arrange flowers and clean are all included. We know that there are some who simply cannot do an on-line course – even by accessing the library or with the help of IT literate grandchildren. If this applies to you just let me know and I will put your name on the list of people for whom we need to work out an alternative way. Most importantly, please don’t worry. But if you can do so, please do the module, add your name to the list and, if possible, let me know you have done it. The link is https://safeguardingtraining.cofeportal.org/ .You will be helping to make our church safe for vulnerable children and adults.

C1 FOUNDATION MODULE - Because of your specific role, some of you need to do the C1 Module also. Your activity leaders can advise. These courses are held throughout the diocese. One is being held here on the evening of 14 November. If you do not have a place and would be available at short notice, please let Sally know, as there may be cancellations nearer the time. Again, many thanks. Di Matthews This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

MAD HATTER’S PHOTOS - These will be displayed at the back of church for 2 weeks: (27th August to 3rd September inclusive). There are some good photos for you to enjoy of the CTR 4 church’s celebration ”Mad Hatter’s Tea Party”. They will be circulating among the 4 churches in Radcliffe 2 weeks at a time.

Have a look. Any thoughts about next year? Date/Month for a start?? Julia Hancock

ST. MARY’S HALL – We have submitted an application to Rushcliffe Borough Council to have a star rating as a registered building dealing in food – not dissimilar to the local Methodist Church.  Consequently there is a need to alter how we deal with food in Coffee Pot.  After careful consideration we shall be moving over to offering a free biscuit in individual sealed packaging similar to many cafes, which sell hot drinks.  This means that we shall not be putting biscuits on plates, as is the current practice.  However for those who like their biscuits we shall be offering additional biscuits in sealed packaging but there will be a small charge to cover costs.  Any cake on offer will be suitably covered.

CHRISTMAS FAYRE 2017  - Time is romping along and it will be November before we know it! So therefore, my annual plea is due for donations of NEW/NEARLY NEW items to help make up a lovely stall at this year’s Christmas Fayre please. Many thanks. Margaret Scothern

RIDE & STRIDE - Once again this year St Mary’s will be supporting the Nottinghamshire Historic Churches Trust Ride & Stride, on Saturday 9th September. The Trust provides funding for the repair and restoration of churches in Nottinghamshire. St Mary’s has benefitted from their support on a number of occasions, most recently £10,000 towards our re-roofing project. David Hancock and I are planning to take part. We will be looking for sponsorship in due course. We intend that half the funds we raise will go the Trust and half to St Mary’s. We also hope members of St Mary’s will help to ‘man’ the church to welcome visiting cyclists, in particular during Saturday afternoon. Dave Townsend

2018 CALENDARS - Attractive calendars of Nottinghamshire churches are now available, priced £5 each from Brian Bull or any of the bell ringers. These include 12 photos of local churches, which can also be used as postcards. Proceeds will go to the Diocesan Bell Fund, which gave a generous grant when work was carried out on St Mary's bells in 2000. Brian Bull
