CHRISTIAN AID WEEK – Sunday 11th - Saturday 17th May 2008 The theme for this year is ‘Empowering People.’ Together the prayers we say, the actions we take and the money we raise are transforming poor communities around the world. There is a special service at the Wellspring Church this evening (11th May) at 6.30pm with Marylyn Raynor who is a Christian Aid volunteer as the Speaker. All are welcome. This week our collectors will be out on the streets of Radcliffe, Shelford and Saxondale collecting for Christian Aid. It isn’t an easy task and we are grateful to our regular collectors for their commitment to this very important work and to our new volunteers. It isn’t too late to offer to help with the ‘House to House’ Collection. For more information please contact Jenny Hudson e-mail

ST MARY’S HALL: As everyone can see, our prayers are being answered. The contractor has been working this week to connect the hall to water and sewage facilities. This work should be completed by Monday 12th May and we are assured that all other outstanding work will be completed in time for the hall to be formally handed over to us on Friday 16th May.
ST MARY’S HALL DEDICATION REFRESHMENTS: Although we anticipate taking possession of the hall before 18th May we have decided that it will be more convenient to offer light refreshments in the British Legion after the dedication. We are hoping the congregation will contribute some food. There are lists at the back of the church for offers of food and help with the serving. Peter Haynes and his team of ladies will do some of the work but as we are expecting over 100 people we are looking for further help. Thank you. Dave Townsend

We can accommodate a few more people. If anyone interested please contact Revd Lynda Foot 07799662852 .
CHILDREN & YOUNG PEOPLE: The leaders of our children’s and young people’s groups have requested that their groups come into church at the end of the 10.00 Holy Communion services rather than the beginning. This has been considered by the Staff Meeting (Vicar and Readers) and we have decided that when the Easter/Pentecost service leaflets are replaced with Trinity ones this change will be introduced. It will enable us to to put the Lord’s Prayer and the Peace in their “normal” places later in the service, and the service should become slightly shorter. We shall continue to have songs led by the Music Group as before, but there will be one fewer hymn. This will begin on May 25 and will run experimentally to the end of the school term, after which the One Way Club and Pathfinders break for the holidays anyway. We shall then review it and if it is considered not to have been an improvement we can revert to the former order in September. For practical reasons it is likely that at Morning Service on “third Sundays” the children will remain in their groups throughout.
SERVICES NEXT SUNDAY: 10.00 – Morning Service with dedication of St Mary’s Hall (Preacher : Bishop of Southwell & Nottingham) 6.30 – Holy Communion at Shelford |
