Radcliffe SignRadVentures to install artistic Village Sign in Radcliffe on Trent

RadVentures, Radcliffe on Trent’s Arts group, has launched and led a creative project, and is now finalising details with the local authorities to erect a splendid Village Sign on a prime site in the centre of the village. Proposed installation date is November 2008.

The ‘silhouette style’ custom-forged black weatherproofed metal sign (image attached) has been designed following RadVentures’ own brief by a specialist company, Kent-based Black Forge Arts. The image features a magnificent Heron; a frequent visitor to Radcliffe’s surrounding countryside, as its centrepiece. The River Trent, framed by indigenous trees flows, an angler sits below the cliffs and a fish leaps cheekily from the water as the Heron looks distractedly in the opposite direction. St. Mary’s Parish Church dominates the horizon, and the village name in white lettering contrasts well against the black metal construction.

Since September 2007 RadVentures has promoted, raised funds and gained sponsorship and goodwill from the local business community and residents to help to finalise the project and erect the sign. The scheme, which fulfils its ambitions to create an artistic, visual image for Radcliffe, has won the unanimous support of Radcliffe Parish Council, which has also identified an installation site. A generous contribution from Nottinghamshire County Council through Councillor Kay Cutts, who represents Radcliffe on Trent, has also been received.

Main commercial sponsors are Richard Culm of Neodesigns.co.uk a specialist joinery, building and design company, Dave Hegarty, Builder, Leigh Birch, Chartered Structural Engineer, M.A. Mills Funeral Service, whose business overlooks the proposed site,. Peter Barlow, Sycamore Farm, Shelford has offered his help if required, and David Graham Photography will document the installation process. Other Radcliffe community members have helped to raise project funds.

The Parish Council and Radventures are planning for the sign to be installed for the Victorian Christmas Fayre on November 30th.

Dave Barton, Chairman of RadVentures said,
“One of our major ambitions as a group is to create an artistic landmark for Radcliffe. We’re almost there and warmly thank all of our supporters and sponsors. We are also delighted that the project has full Parish Council support. RadVentures will then gift the sign to the Radcliffe community for posterity.”

Councillor Jo Spencer, Amenities Chairwoman representing the Parish Council said,
“The Council is pleased to support this excellent RadVentures project and looks forward to seeing it through to a speedy and successful conclusion.”

RadVentures is also a member of the national Village Ventures Rural Touring Scheme, sponsored in this region by Notts. County Council, Rushcliffe Borough Council and Arts Council England. So far it has brought 14 professional companies and performers to Radcliffe, from stand-up comedy, ballet, jazz, international music and cabaret to street performers, and much more
