St Mary's Radcliffe on Trent

Working in love to glorify God
and proclaim Jesus Christ as Saviour

Martin Skeffington - Lay PCC Chair

Martin PhotoHaving moved to Radcliffe-on-Trent late 1985 I was introduced to St. Mary’s a few years later when I was searching for more than life in general could offer.  I had been brought up an Anglican but like so many nowadays had let my faith lapse.

It was through my connection with the Boys’ Brigade that it was suggested to me that perhaps I should get re-involved with the local church and everything as you might say since is history.  It was in April 2000 that I was asked to join the PCC and at the time St. Mary’s was looking for a second churchwarden.  I felt I was being called to undertake the job and accordingly offered my services.  God had a job for me.   I had recently taken early retirement and I felt I would be able to offer something useful back to my church.  Being churchwarden can be challenging, sometimes frustrating, but also rewarding.  It is like being part of a family with all the ups and downs a family has but is also rewarding.  However after six years in the post I have decided to step down and concentrate my efforts on the St. Mary’s Hall project.  I have recently taken over as PCC Lay Chair so I am still heavily involved in the running of St. Mary’s Church.

I am still happy to talk to anyone about life at St. Mary’s and being a keyholder I am able to give access to the church should anyone need it.
